Autumn Leaves – A Finished Quilt

Sometimes quilt ideas come to me instantaneously. More often, however, I have a couple of partial-ideas simmering in the back of my brain that eventually combine in beautiful ways, and Autumn Leaves is definitely in this latter category.

A while ago I checked out the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s American Quilts and Coverlets Book (which you can download for free here) and was completely blown away by the quilty inspiration. One of the quilts that stood out to me most was the one below (you can see more pictures here; the photo below is not mine). The colors and the pattern just really struck me, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to replicate it.

At the same time, I wanted to make an autumnal quilt but wasn’t sure how to go about it. Things came to a head late this summer, when I realized I needed to start working on it before the season changed. I sat down with my markers and graph paper, and eureka! the pattern for Autumn Leaves.

After that the quilt came together quickly, and I loved working with the colors! This quilt has a a very peaceful aura to it, which is what I love about fall.

I’ve written up a pattern for this quilt with three size options: 48″ x 64″ (which is the size I made), 64″ x 80″, or 72″ x 90″. Even the larger sizes come together quickly, given the simplicity of the blocks and the seams. You can buy the pattern on Etsy or Craftsy. I’m also selling the original quilt on Etsy here.

Have a very happy autumn!

Introducing Rose Craft Quilts

I’ve been dreaming and planning towards opening my own small business for a while now, so it’s been very exciting to see those plans come to fruition this summer with the opening of my Etsy and Craftsy shops. As I’ve been learning the ropes these past few months, I realized that I needed an online headquarters where I could unite all the different facets of my shop into one handy page – so here we are! With this first post I’m going to give a little information about myself and my shop and then have a rundown of my items and where they are available. Consider it my introduction!

First, my own story. I’m Emily, a college student studying Actuarial Science, an avid reader, and an obsessed quilter. I started quilting around six years ago after my mom taught me how and have been hooked ever since.

This is my first (big) quilt I completed. I’ve changed a lot, but I still love solids 🙂

I’ve followed quilting blogs for years and have long wanted to start my own website and business, so opening Rose Craft Quilts this summer was a big milestone for me. At the moment I have three main avenues where I sell my items, two main types of merchandise I sell, and one major social media outlet.

The three main avenues are Etsy, Craftsy, and RuppMassage. The first two are online retailers; the third is a physical building where I have some of my quilts hanging and available for purchase. I am also open to commissions, so if you’re interested please contact me through the contact page on this blog or through Etsy. (Please understand that I do reserve the right not to take on a commission).

More baby quilts!

The two main types of items that I sell are quilts and quilt patterns. All of the quilts currently on my Etsy page are sized for babies or toddlers, and the quilts at RuppMassage are wall quilts. But if you want a larger quilt, don’t let that deter you from contacting me; I’m open to commissions of larger quilt sizes. I also sell quilt patterns (the three I have currently available are below) through Etsy and Craftsy.

Summer Breeze – my latest!

This is only the beginning. I plan on both regularly adding new things to all three of my avenues and regularly blogging about them. I can’t wait to see how much this little business grows and changes in the coming years, and I am excited for all of the quilty adventures that await.
